We usually do not start school until after Labor Day. So I use the month of August to work out what we will be doing up to Christmas Break.
For some reason I've been thinking a lot about FOOD! Teaching at home also means eating at home- ALL DAY! I've always thought that it was important to have easy to grab snacks. A wise mom told me that she has a list on her fridge of snacks that her kids could have anytime. I haven't done this but plan on starting it this year. We do not have a scheduled snack break. When you get hungry and if it is not meal time then you can grab a snack. What snacks are great to have around for a quick grab?
I am the shopper so it is up to me to keep the snack stock full. Each girl gets to pick out one special snack at the store. This helps me with making the decision on what to buy.I want to make sure that my daughters are following recipes and preparing the snacks, too! This is a very important to me. I want my daughters to be able to cook for themselves and others.
This year I'm going to work on teaching them how to make something from what you have in your pantry. I love doing this. It takes practice for some!

ReplyDeleteAren't they though! Very easy to make! LOL
ReplyDeleteHi Susie Q,
ReplyDeleteYou are right, snacks are a challenge. I too make sure that I have a plethora of healthy foods ready for the taking when the children come home from school.
I must make sure not to alert them to what is available to eat. They love the hunt and the independence of finding it on their own. Instead, I slyly place the prepared food directly at eye vision in the fridge so that when they open the door they will not stand there wasting energy as they search for hours with the door open.
My kids are big snackers. I'm always on the look out for healthy options to send to school.
ReplyDeleteNot trying to plug a brand, but we've recently discovered Kashi. Used to be hard to find, but it's even at Wal-Mart now. They have healthier versions of the kids faves.
Hi Jillian!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments! For us with homeschooling and being home for most all of the snacks, meals, etc the kids will say can I have this and that, etc. So by me making a list of what is available that might give them more freedom to grab when they want and what they want. Plus 2 of them are teens and they open up the pantry and say "what it there to eat?" LOL. They don't see it even if it is in front of them!!! I never know what to buy either. So this gives me a list! I love list! haha
Ashlie I agree that Kashi has some great snacks. It is fine with me to plug a brand!!! I appreciate the recommendation!!!
