Gooseberry Patch Recipes for Southern Fried Apples

We love apples! Most of the time apples are eaten and dipped in natural peanut butter. When it comes to fall recipes, apples are best cooked and served as Southern friend apples served over vanilla bean ice cream. How do you enjoy your apples? What is your favorite fall dessert recipe? Share below.

This Southern fried apple recipe can be found on page 168 from Slow Cookers, Casseroles & Skillets from Gooseberry Patch. This is my cookbook and I have permission to share the recipe. Enjoy it!!!

Southern Fried Apples

Ingredients

1/4 c. shortening
6 tart apples, cored, peeled and sliced
1 tsp. lemon juice
1/4 c. brown sugar, packed
1/8 t. salt
Garnish: apple pie spice

Directions

Melt shortening in a skilled over medium heat.
Add apples evenly in a single layer.
Sprinkle with lemon juice, brown sugar and salt.
Cover; cook over low heat for 15 minutes, until apples are tender and juicy.  Sprinkle with spice and serve warm.
Serves about 6.
Make them even yummier with a dollop of whipped cream.

Kitchen Notes
1) I used butter instead of shortening.
2) I served it with vanilla bean ice cream.
