A few months back I posted tips on doing a bedroom makeover! Over the past few weeks we've been using our tips to give my 11 year old a fun new room makeover. She will be going from plain white to razzle dazzle me purple! Each summer I pick a room to redecorate. This is our 4th Summer living here and so it is her turn to get a room makeover. We live in a small town and most supplies that we need are 30-45 minutes away. Sometimes even further! I order a lot of things online to save time and gas money. One of my favorite online stops includes over 200 online stores. CSN stores carry everything needed for a room makeover including curtains, rugs, and a new bed.
Emily has a loft bed right now so we decided that she isn't getting a new bed right now. If I do get her one in the future I'm getting this one:
This is almost identical to the one she use to have. It matches her other furniture in her room as you can see below. She has a huge dresser with a mirror, small book shelf and a rectangle "toy box" that matches this collection!
Are you shopping for a new bed? If so go check out CSN stores and see if they have something to match your style and budget. I'll be posting photos and tips as we redo her room. Today we are starting to rip off the wallpaper! ~~FUN~~
Check back here in a few days because I'm going to be doing a product review from CSN stores.

Fix-it and Forget-it Steak Stroganoff
Fix it and Forget It Cookbook for the Crockpot is a wonderful cookbook full of 700 recipes. We have some family favorite recipes in here including the steak stroganoff. These dinner time recipes make dinner prep and meal time easy!!! Love this cookbook.
This 262 page book is jammed packed with 700 tasty recipes! Here is another recipe we tried! My kids L-O-V-E their Nana's Beef Stroganoff. I decided to try out one of the recipe in this book for stroganoff because it was for the slow cooker. I needed one of those yummy, family-comfort-food-meals that could cook all day and provide a day of leftovers!This one is a winner!
For some reason I don't have a final photo! Not sure what happened!! Now I know that I'll have to make it again to take a picture! Here are the mushroom that I used in the recipe!!!
Steak Stroganoff
2 T Flour
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp paprika
1 3/4 lb. boneless beef round steak
10 oz can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 c. water
1 envelope dried onion soup mix
9 oz jar sliced mushrooms, drained
1/2 c. sour cream
1 T minced fresh parsley
1. Combine flour, garlic powder, pepper and paprika in slow cooker.
2. Cut mean into 1 1/2 by 1/2 inch strips. Place in flour mixture and toss until meat is well coated.
3. Add soup, water and soup mix. Stir until well blended.
4. Cover. Cook on high 3-3 1/2 hrs or low 6-7 hrs.
5. Stir in mushrooms, sour cream, and parsley. Cover and cook on high 10-15 minutes, or until heated through.
Serve with rice. Makes 6 servings.
~~~~~~~~
Kitchen Notes:
My changes-
My changes-
*I doubled the recipe and for the double I added chicken. So the recipe had both chicken and steak. You couldn't tell the difference from the steak or chicken.
*I didn't use paprika
*Instead of the water I used wine.
*Instead of jar mushrooms I used fresh. I added them at the beginning.
*This turned out very salty. I normally cook low sodium but the dried onion soup mix kicked it up into a high sodium meal. (NOTE if you do not cook LOW SODIUM you won't think that this is a high sodium meal and you won't know the difference) Next time I make this I'm going to add in dry onions and low sodium beef cubes.
*To cut the salty taste I just added in more sour cream.
*We ate it with noodles.
*This meal is delish! Everyone ate it and wanted to keep it in our food rotation!
The Knight Life-Chivalry ain't Dead Giveaway and Review
From the publisher, Hachette's website:
The Knight Life is a hilariously twisted view of life through the eyes and pen of its creator, community-oriented urban hipster and award-winning cartoonist Keith Knight. The Knight Life deftly blends political insight and neurotic humor in a uniquely fluid and dynamic style, offering a comic strip that's fresh, sharp, topical and funny. Designed for daily newspapers, The Knight Life follows Knight's long-running, 2007 Harvey Award-winning weekly comic strip "The K Chronicles," which appears on salon.com.
An unabashedly provocative political and social satire, The Knight Life tackles contemporary issues like consumer culture, bacon, the media, race, family and everything else, gently mocking the minutiae of daily life with self-deprecating humor, honesty and goofiness-a combination that's perfect for the comics. And The Knight Life's energetic style reminds readers that comics can look funny as well as read funny. The result is accessible yet edgy, compassionate and political-and never preachy. Cartoonist and comic historian R.C. Harvey said, "The Knight Life is undeniably the best new laugh- and thought-provoker on the comics page. Not since Calvin and Hobbes has there been so novel an entertainment in the funnies.
MY TAKE ON THE BOOK: I'm an old school comic reader of The Peanuts, Far Side and Calvin and Hobbs. I wasn't familiar with this strip until I was given the book to review. This book is a collection of strips from the past two year. It is a Nationally syndicated strip. I found it very witty! I loved the strip on warning kids to not forget to floss their teeth! It listed a bunch of treasure you might find like "webster" or scrabble tiles! I also cracked up at the strip on The Bacon of the Month Club! A few of my friends (Cwirla you are one of them) are obsessed with bacon so it brought this strip right home for me!
This is just the type of funny book to have in the car to read while you are waiting for your kids to get out of play or swim practice!
Check out the OPENBOOK and read a few pages for yourself!
FREE Dance Mat Typing by BBC- Get your kid's typing this summer!
A few years back I found an online typing program for my daughters. They loved the quirky program and it was silly enough to keep their attention and learn to type. We lost touch with the program until just today! I went searching for it and was so excited to find it online! This is a fun program to get your kids typing this summer!
This program is geared toward 7-11 year olds. As you go through each stage, it recaps the previous lesson, introduces new letters typed with left and right hands, practice of previous letters and the quirky part is that the typist is rewarded with a mini song and dance!
It is so important to learn touch typing. Computers are a part of our every day life. The program gives tips on using the correct fingers, rest wrist on desk and take a rest to let your hands and arms relax. Encourage your kids to NOT look at their hands when they are typing. If they follow this program they will be typing faster than then write in no time!
The program also includes printable worksheets to practice when offline!
Now go check it out! Dance Mat Typing
Compost Stew- A to Z Recipe for the Earth
From the back cover "Compost Stew is beautiful, poetic, evocative-and educational. It provides such vital, important information for children (and adults) to understand and embrace, and to put into practice..."
MY TASTY OPINION:
This is a very cute and clever book that creates an A-Z recipe guide to teach children how to begin a home compost pile and why it is so important. The reading age is Kindergarten-4th grade. As an adult, I found the book very informative and helpful. We have a container garden and rose bushes that could really use some compost. I've always wanted to start a small compost pile but only knew about egg shells, coffee grounds and lawn clippings. Thanks to this book, I'm on my way in starting my very own "compost stew." We will be taking pictures of our "stew" for you to view! My 11 year old enjoyed learning how to make a compost pile and what things not to put in the "stew". She was most curious about this and will be my project helper.
The quirky writing prose and recyclable graphic illustrations form their own "stew" into an excellent teaching book! Click below on the Amazon ad to read pages of this book. As much as we enjoyed learning about how to start our own compost stew we also loved the illustrations. Compost Stew would also make an excellent book and resource for any classroom or library!
Fix It and Forget It Cookbook & Recipes
This is my 2nd post on this cookbook. I'm running a series of post on this cookbook and this post will include a giveaway! CLICK HERE TO READ THE BEEF STROGANOFF recipe.
I love cookbooks! They are so much fun to pick up and read. I love reading them from cover to cover. My newest cookbook review is the Fix-It and Forget-It Cookbook. This is the revised & updated version that includes 700 "Great Slow Cooker Recipes".
This is already a very successful cookbook. The original cookbook has already sold over 5 million copies! So you ask, what is up with the revised and updated book?? It has been enhanced, "flavor injected" so to speak with 100 new recipes. Each recipe now includes "Prep Time," "Cooking Time," and "Ideal Slow-Cooker Size."
Cookbooks are fun to review because you get to actually eat the words on the pages! I love trying out new recipes on my family! This cookbook is all about using your slow cooker! Read my post, "Use your Slow Cooker year round" and read some great tips on using your crockpot/slow cooker that is also included in this new book.
Stay tuned for more information on this book! I'm also going to share some of the recipes that I've made so far. The first recipe that I made was Texas Queso Dip, pg. 12. It was a perfect addition to my Quick and Easy Fajitas.
5. Cover and cook 2 hours on Low.
Secrets of the Mountain Family Adventure DVD Giveaway
Are you looking for a family fun movie adventure? We found one called, Secrets of the Mountain. I was so pleased to sit down and watch a movie with my tween and teens and not have to pause the movie and have discussion time on what is being said and done. The movie is about an every day family who have had some ups and downs. Typical movie where teens and parents get involved in their own coming and goings and loose site of the family unit. The movie pulls them together as a family. Great movie to watch with kids all they way up to their Great-Grandparents! Enter below to win a copy!
From back cover:
Somewhere between the demands of her career, her ex's wedding and her kids' busy schedules, Dana James (Paige Turco, The Agency) is noticing her tight-knit family starting to unravel. An unexpected offer to purchase her family's mountain property sets up a weekend road trip, which she hopes will bring her family back together. But when they arrive, they quickly learn that the mountain is much more than it seems. An ancient secret and a treacherous quest will test the family like never before. It's an edge-of-the seat thriller that reminds us that when times are tough, families don't run away from problems — they run back to each other.
