From the back cover "Compost Stew is beautiful, poetic, evocative-and educational. It provides such vital, important information for children (and adults) to understand and embrace, and to put into practice..."
MY TASTY OPINION:
This is a very cute and clever book that creates an A-Z recipe guide to teach children how to begin a home compost pile and why it is so important. The reading age is Kindergarten-4th grade. As an adult, I found the book very informative and helpful. We have a container garden and rose bushes that could really use some compost. I've always wanted to start a small compost pile but only knew about egg shells, coffee grounds and lawn clippings. Thanks to this book, I'm on my way in starting my very own "compost stew." We will be taking pictures of our "stew" for you to view! My 11 year old enjoyed learning how to make a compost pile and what things not to put in the "stew". She was most curious about this and will be my project helper.
The quirky writing prose and recyclable graphic illustrations form their own "stew" into an excellent teaching book! Click below on the Amazon ad to read pages of this book. As much as we enjoyed learning about how to start our own compost stew we also loved the illustrations. Compost Stew would also make an excellent book and resource for any classroom or library!

We attempted to start one last year and it went VERY wrong! We had no clue what we were doing. My kids were all into it as well. Would be interested in seeing what this book has to say!
ReplyDeleteI always thought I would like to have one, but cannot right now. I do try to be careful about recycling, conservative in using lights, etc.
