DADDY DATES- 4 Daughters, One Clueless Dad, and His Quest to Win Their Hearts. Like many boys, Greg Wright wanted to be around beautiful women when he grew up. Then he learned the truth of “watch what you wish for.” By 29, Greg was a motivational leader surrounded by gorgeous girls 24/7.
In his own home.
When faced with the reality of raising four beautiful daughters, he went into the woods to plan a strategy for being a successful dad and came back with a mission: Don’t Screw Up.
Daddy Dates is Greg’s funny and moving saga of how he intentionally pursued knowing his girls and in the process, figured out how to overcome the dad-daughter communication barrier, regardless of age or personality type.
This witty and relatable book poses the wildly original concept that should be a “duh” for most men–but isn’t: In order raise a confident woman-to-be, fathers should show their girls what it feels like when a man truly has her best interest at heart.
Just in time for Father’s Day 2011, the self-described “regular-Joe” shares his formula for how both married and single dads can go beyond Hi-Fiving to bridge the gender gap and better connect with his female child… no matter how seemingly close or estranged she may already by.
Daddy Dates is written in an entertain and highly original voice that will appeal to both men and women. It is the kind of action-oriented “how to” material that guys enjoy, and will recommend to their friends. It doesn’t matter how old you are, how much money you have, or whether you wear camo or cashmere– ever father, husband, son and brother can learn something from Greg Wright’s evocative and enlightening read.
Scraps of Life Book Club Review: When I was asked to review, Daddy Dates, I jumped right at it head first. Why? Because I knew this book needed to reach many dads who did not know what "daddy dates" are and what they will mean for their daughters.
Somewhere and somehow early on my husband started having "daddy daughter time" aka "daddy dates" with our girls. We have three of them. He would take one at a time, two at a time and even all three, depending on the occasion. Now that they are tween/teens he is still doing it. At first I was jealous, only a tad, I wanted to join in and do what they were doing, too. It didn't take long to realize what he was doing was for all of us and especially the girls. Even now, all these years later, he still does things with them on his own. The girls want me to go, at times, but I stay back and let the dad be the one with the girls.
The author, Greg Wright stated "...was struck dumb by my complete and profound ignorance about my own offsprings' desires and opinions" and his motto became "don't screw up" on his quest to get to know his daughters. He realized early on that he wanted to know them and this book is how he went about doing it. He realized that females want to be discovered, praised and treasured. From this thinking he was a daddy on a mission.
This book is non-fiction but it had me on the edge of my seat. This man spoke from his heart and his words had me hook, line and sinker! There are so many parallels to our own life and I just couldn't get enough of this book. Over the years, I've mentioned "daddy daughter time" as we call it to friends and they really never "got" what my hubby was doing. I even mentioned to someone that my husband tells the girls "what guys think" and they would say "why would he do that?"
I'm proud of my husband for coming up with his daddy daughter time and it has paid off. We have 3 intelligent, beautiful, strong & confident daughters. I didn't have a mother or father growing up so this was all new territory to me. I am so blessed to have found a husband who played the father role so that I didn't have to do both. Our daughters are special gifts that we were given and with prayer, trial & error, love and more we have been taking care of our gifts and raising them up to be respectable adults.
If you have a daughter you need to read this book. If you have a friend who has just had a baby, get him this book. It is a short, quick read and jammed packed full of goodness. This book will help you set your course on getting to know your daughter before it is too late. You can order it here.
I was given a copy of this book to post a review. My own tasty thoughts & opinions are expressed here.
