Did you know that more than 80,000 chemicals in the United States have never been fully tested for their toxic effects on our health and environment? Should this concern you? YES! It should concern all of us as Scientists have linked exposure to toxic chemicals to many health risks, such as Cancer, Alzheimer's, learning disabilities, asthma, birth defects, and various reproductive problems. Yes this concerns all of us.
Chemical Reform is needed. The Toxic Substances Control Act needs to be reevaluated since its creation in 1976. We can all take action to make sure chemicals are being tested and labeled before public use. Right now, less that 10% of toxic substances get tested by the EPA.
What can you do? Just as I am doing you can do these things, too:
- Team up with Seventh Generation. Become a Toxin Freedom Fighter and be one of the 100,000 to sign the Seventh Generation’s petition (do so by April 24th) to urge Congress to reevaluate the Toxic Substances Control Act for the first time since 1976.
- Get rid of and reduce the toxins in your home to limit your family's exposure to unnecessary toxins.
- Use green, eco-friendly products in your home including homemade products using basic resources.
- Go to the Seventh Generation website and get even more information and find green, eco-friendly products to use in your home.
- Click to sign the petition to support this chemical reform.
