Did you know that after learning about this disease, Mrs. Claus took on a mission this holiday season. She decided that it is time for her and Santa to set a better example for all of us. Mrs. Claus made some changes to their lifestyle and is promoting heart health this holiday season.
Some of the changes Mrs. Claus and Santa have made:
- Eating more foods rich in omega-3s, vitamin D and E, Beta-Glucan
- Taking nutritional supplements like fish oil and multivitamins
- Leaving the unhealthy foods on the shelf at the store and eating more nutrient rich foods
- Drinking fresh fruit & veggie smoothies for breakfast
- Joining in the daily reindeer games which gives Santa a good workout
- Choosing dark chocolate instead of chocolate chip cookies
- Relaxing more and getting 8 hours of sleep
- Adding in fortified soy milk and peanut butter made just with peanuts and added omega 3s
Click over to ClausNutrition.com as it is a great resource throughout the holiday season for heart healthy tips and ways that you and your family can make little changes and additions to your lifestyle now and throughout the rest of the year. You can follow more about the Clause family on the DSM Website, Facebook and Twitter.
The holidays are not an easy time of the year to eat healthy. Every house Santa goes to he will get milk and cookies. Mrs. Claus is asking that you leave out fruits & veggies this year for Santa and the Reindeer. As you go to holiday parties, make wise choices. It is ok to have a few treats but know that you need to balance out the rest of your day with healthier, nutrition dense foods. These changes are for all year, not just the holidays.
Do you have any suggestions on eating healthy at the holidays? I'd love to know your heart healthy advice, too!
